Herald K’s second album, “Mythologies,” is a captivating journey through the realms of ancient tales and timeless narratives. With ten tracks that explore various mythological themes, the album presents a collection of original arrangements, blending old acoustic instruments with a postmodern production approach. Released on the 12th of May 2023, this album showcases Herald K’s growth as a singer-songwriter and his ability to create music that is both rooted in tradition and relevant to contemporary audiences.

From the opening notes of the album, it becomes evident that Herald K has a deep understanding and appreciation for mythology. Each song on “Mythologies” offers a unique perspective on this theme, whether through musical adaptations of ancient myths or by embodying the spirit and style of myth-like tales. Regardless of their origin, be it Greece, Rome, Ireland, or elsewhere, these universal stories resonate with listeners, transcending time and cultural boundaries.

The album’s five previously released singles have been remastered and enhanced, giving them new life and further contributing to the overall cohesiveness of the album. Herald K’s attention to detail is evident in the recurring motifs and archetypes that connect the ten tracks, creating a sense of unity and purpose.

The arrangements on “Mythologies” are predominantly acoustic, with Herald K’s vocals and guitar leading the way. Stephan Steiner’s contributions with nyckelharpa, accordion, violin, concertina, and tin whistle add depth and richness to the compositions. The bass by Navid Djawadi and the pedal steel and slide guitar by Markus Mayerhofer provide a strong foundation and enhance the album’s folk-inspired sound. Nikola Stanosevic’s piano and Othmar Loschy’s harmonica also make notable contributions, adding texture and colour to the arrangements.

The album features guest vocalists Jessica Slavik and Lina Louise, whose ethereal voices complement Herald K’s singing, creating beautiful harmonies that further enhance the mythological atmosphere.

The production, helmed by Herald K and Robin Gillard, is skillfully executed, allowing each instrument to shine while maintaining a cohesive sonic landscape. Walter Frotzler’s mastering gives the album a polished and professional finish, allowing the intricacies of the arrangements to be appreciated fully.

Herald K’s songwriting is both poetic and introspective, often drawing inspiration from old and ancient literature. Tracks like “Wandering Aengus” and “Mountains of Mourne” demonstrates his ability to adapt existing works while adding his unique musical touch. His lyrics are evocative and thought-provoking, delving into the depths of human emotion and the universal themes found within mythology.

“Mythologies” by Herald K is a captivating and immersive album that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation. It showcases the artist’s growth and creative vision, resulting in a collection of songs that are not only musically engaging but also intellectually stimulating. With its rich arrangements, heartfelt lyrics, and timeless themes, “Mythologies” is a testament to Herald K’s talent as a singer-songwriter and his ability to weave enchanting narratives through music.
