Jakob The Liar, the alias of Danish-born, London-based songwriter Jakob Kupferberg, has quietly built a reputation for marrying lyrical vulnerability with ambitious arrangements. His latest single, A Song Like You, doesn’t just continue that thread-it elevates it entirely. With a sound that leans confidently into alt-rock territory while keeping one foot grounded in his folk roots, this is perhaps his most immediate and emotionally resonant release to date.

The track opens in deceptively gentle fashion, with acoustic guitar and ambient synths setting a reflective tone. But as the song unfolds, it grows into something far more cinematic. Gritty guitars begin to bite, the rhythm section tightens its grip, and Kupferberg’s voice-husky, expressive, and slightly weathered-guides it all with conviction. When the chorus hits, the result is explosive. Not in the stadium-sized, overly polished way we’ve come to expect from modern alt-rock, but in a way that feels raw and hard-earned.

What’s striking is how clearly Jakob wears his heart on his sleeve here. Lyrically, it’s a love song, but one born from experience, not fantasy. He captures the quiet optimism of finally finding the right person after years of feeling like real love only existed on a screen. There’s something unguarded in both his words and delivery, which makes the cathartic swell of the final chorus all the more powerful.

Jakob’s musical evolution is evident too. Known for more orchestral textures on previous tracks like Sunchild, this time he embraces a more grounded, guitar-driven sound that still retains its emotional scope. The production is warm and tactile, never overproduced, and every instrument feels placed with intention. There’s a sense of movement throughout the track, a forward pull that matches the song’s central theme of hope through resilience.

A Song Like You serves as the fourth and final single from his upcoming EP, Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg, and also marks the first glimpse into his anticipated debut album The Great Awakening. It’s a strong statement from an artist who has lived through enough to mean what he says. For fans of artists like Frightened Rabbit, Jeff Buckley, or The War on Drugs, Jakob The Liar might be a name worth remembering this year.
