Luke Aaron Clark’s EP “Paper Tongue” is a captivating musical journey that combines honesty, fragility, and addictive melodies. Originally released in 2011 and now available worldwide, this indie and experimental album showcases Clark’s talent as a British artist and sound engineer based in France.

The EP was meticulously crafted and intimately recorded in Nashville, USA, with the help of talented musicians such as Wes King, who also produced the record. The songs feature Clark’s soulful vocals and his skilful guitar playing, complemented by the mesmerizing harmonies of Wes King and the dynamic drumming of Ken Lewis.

One of the standout aspects of “Paper Tongue” is the incorporation of beautiful string arrangements. Daniel Bernard Roumain’s violin, John Catchings’ cello, and Brent Milligan’s double bass add depth and emotion to the songs, creating a rich and captivating sonic landscape.

The album draws inspiration from a variety of influences, including artists like Bon Iver, RY X, Nick Drake, and The Beatles. The melodies are addictive and the lyrics are simple yet meaningful, exploring themes of broken family experiences and love. Clark’s authentic and personal songwriting shines through in tracks like “Just Ok” and “Oh isn’t life pretty,” where his heartfelt vocals are accompanied by poignant lyrics that resonate with listeners.

Beyond the music itself, there is a touching story behind the making of this EP. During the recording process, Wes King was battling cancer, and Clark was able to provide guidance and support to his young children. This experience created a deep bond between them, enhancing the emotional connection that is evident throughout the album.

Luke Aaron Clark’s “Paper Tongue” is a testament to the power of music as a universal language. It showcases his talent as a songwriter and musician, delivering a collection of songs that are both introspective and relatable. With its captivating melodies, lush harmonies, and meaningful lyrics, this EP is a must-listen for indie folk enthusiasts and anyone seeking an authentic musical experience.
