Spotlight Release Review |Rogue Jones-1,2,3

United Kingdom, Cardiff

Rogue Jones is a Welsh fit that is truly amazing! Everything about them screams “I need to hear more!”. Their latest song release, “1,2,3” is just that more, being a unique and captivating blend of Welsh intricate harmonies, and soothing enticing soundscapes. The talented duo Ynyr and Bethan can be heard on trumpets but also the person responsible for performing Welsh music’s greatest and most iconic trumpet solo in Eryr Wen’s Gloria Tyrd Adre, Ioan Hefin.

The song opens with those gorgeous trumpets and harmonious piano segments and twinkling before we are introduced to some hauntingly beautiful vocals, immediately drawing the listener in. The Welsh lyrics, with English translations available over the interweb for those of us not skilled in the bi-lingual department, are both deeply personal and universal, exploring the magnitude of love that one may have for another being but more specifically for part of this fit, Bethan, parenthood, with the creation of this track linked to childbirth and the intense vulnerability that comes with this. The instrumentation is equally evocative, featuring layers of delicate piano, strings, and brass elements that build to a powerful yet dreamy crescendo.

The song is a testament to Rogue Jones’ ability to seamlessly blend contemporary and traditional elements, creating a sound that is both modern and deeply and warmly rooted in Welsh culture.

“1,2,3” is a stunning and immersive listening experience that showcases Rogue Jones’ exceptional talent and unique artistic vision. It is a must-listen for anyone interested in Welsh music, experimental folk, or simply beautiful and thought-provoking music.
