Spotlight Release Review | Tyler Elden- Our Good Name

We all love a bit of 90’s rock, especially when it has been provided by modern-day exquisite talent like the collaboration between Tyler Elden and Katie of the Philadelphia based Indie rock collective The Lunar Year as well as Producer & Engineer Matt Weber (Sweet Pill) / Christopher Hawthorne (Francesca Blanchard).

This latest release ‘Our Good Name’ dances around the hard-hitting topic of a family being cast out from the community they’ve always known and loved. This utilises the future of an unborn child to broach the subject in the most emotional way possible.

This tracks overall vibe takes me back to my youth in the early 000’s when I first discovered the joy that is artists like Biffy Clyro, The Cure and Ultravox with its glorious use of rhythmic guitar-heavy backings and solid, strong drum beats fit for any rock bar up and down the country. The epic build-ups, perfectly placed pauses and magnificent continuous drops add a level of intensity that was present in the most classic of tacks.

Combine this with the beautiful vocals that are perfect for narrating such an important story, filled with emotion but still removed enough that it is delivered informatively for the listener to follow along and be able to assign their own thoughts and emotions to it, allowing for it to become a much more personal offering.
