So this week we had the chance to provide you all with a view of Roxercat thanks to their single release “I Changed Today”. Well, today we come with better news we have been sitting on for a few days eager to share but unable to ruin the bands’ plans, but we are excited to introduce their latest EP ‘Pearls’ released on this very day (13th of January 2023) and wow is it an awesome EP.

Sometimes a band having a great track, as they did with “I Changed Today”, can be a fluke and the rest of the tracks don’t quite stack up, this is never the case for Roxercat. They have managed to maintain their skilful sound and piece together six tracks that offer something for all.

Starting out with the EP’s namesake ‘Pearls’. This track welcomes up calmly into the Roxercats world, with some gorgeous guitar leads and soothing rhythmic guitar strums. These are complimented by a cymbal and hi-hat heavy drum beat, framing the feel for this entire EP. This is all the perfect backing for those dreamy and raspy vocals we have experienced before and will continue to experience throughout.

This then takes us into the second track ‘Crime’ which welcomes us in with a smooth funky guitar segment, which could be drawn from bands Stan Lassiter’s background and reputation as a premier guitarist and bass member Bill Francis Jazz degree, accompanied by a solid a strong beat. This one for me is all about the vocals though lead singer Price Jones really shows us what she can do. With some gorgeous harmonies, which are delivered alongside a crisp and emotive and purely punk attitude-filled voice. As this track progressed there is an amazing guitar solo that will melt your soul!

This high-energy solo leads us into the slower midpoint track ‘Baby I Tried’ which is solidly in the rock vibe this awesome band is known for, which entirely shows off their abilities. I always say if a band can create a slowed-down track and still hit their genre, they are full of talent, and here that is certainly achieved. We are drawn in by the gorgeous vocals Price has to offer while both Stan and Bill provide nothing be warmth in the backing. This fast opens up into an almost ballad where those raspy emotive vocals show up again, giving us an insight into the soul of the track

The fourth track ‘I Will Not Lie’ very much harnesses the rock and roll vibe by slamming listeners in the face with a gorgeous guitar solo as soon as the track kicks off which continues as the track progresses, giving listeners the chance to see the skill of Stan when left to do what he does best on his guitar. Some gorgeous harmonies are introduced here by the band, where we see that there are more talents involved than just instrumental abilities.

We are then taken into the track that introduced us here at Principle Music to this amazing trio ‘I changed today’ which we had the pleasure of writing about previously. This track is full of power. The trio absolutely obliterate everything we think about Roxercat as they change up the game and provide us with a solidly classical rock anthem, we can all enjoy. With catchy hooks and some of the cleanest guitar solos, you could ever experience! Honestly, there is no way to explain how much this track reaches down into your soul!

This all takes us into the final track of the EP ‘2020’, which brings the tempo back down in the intro and a beautiful tremolo-heavy solo plays until an explosion of sounds kicks in. This is a solidly instrumental heavy piece which allows the listener to connect with the band in a whole new way. All of their talents are combined together here and delivered in one neat package, ready to really give us a view of what they can do. Price’s amazing and now familiar raspy vocals appear in brief intervals allowing for the instrumentals to be framed and the face-melting shredding to take over, and by god does that shredding take over. What an amazing outro this is!

This whole EP takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. The journey Price’s storytelling takes us on through life, constantly reminding us to stay in our power and walk away from all things that do not serve your soul positively, but more importantly that when change occurs embrace it, go with it and know things get better and we can heal.

Out now and streaming on all major platforms!
